"The Aussie pub rock scene that so many bands, including INXS, were born out of was like nothing you’d ever seen. AC/DC came from that background. INXS came from that background. Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel, The Angels. There were so many bands that [came from] that era. We weren’t controlled by US [and] UK pop trends...We were just simply on our own roll here in Australia — and we were excited. We were feeling invincible and that the music we were creating was unique. And you know what? It was."
Where are all my Aussie rock fans?

Our family were just talking about this the other day. Even our kids think today's music is absolute crap (with the very odd exception) and all the bands that you mentioned and more, are highly regarded by us. It's so great hearing our kids sing along to bands such as INXS and Hunters and Collectors etc. in this day and age, while cruising down the highway. But we are all very hungry for new stuff, and it just isn't there any more.
We thought that it may be our influence on our kids why they don't like the new music around now. However we think it's because they can sense the same opinion for themselves.
They didn't even give the nod for Midnight Oils new music even though we couldn't wait to see what they had done.
The live band scene needs to be concentrated on into the future, I remember hearing INXS out front of the "Jet Club" in Coolangatta before I even knew who they were, wishing I was old enough to go in. The place was thumping, it was awesome.
I personally think people have lost their way with music and like David Byrne from T.H. said. They are all basically making music with the same computer programme now. We need to get old school again and keep rockin.
Crazy times .use to drink at the sanmiguel cammeray hotel .id remember seeing cues ov people lined up almost al the way down the street to get in to see bands .great days .
That is oh so true !! I remember we used to go out in Melbourne during late seventies to mid eighties and see bands several times a week in clubs, pubs & bars. The same happened when we stayed in Sydney as well. Many of these great Aussie & Kiwi bands are still going strong now nearly 40 years later. Two of my mates back in Melbourne, who were Sydney lads went to school in Sydney with you guys. I'm living in UK now, but still have TDK metal tapes of bands that I recorded back in those times and all are still working fine now nearly 40 years later. My sister worked in Brash's music shop at Eastland shopping centre in Ringwood, Melbourne in late 70's, early 80's and she would get stuff at reduced prices !! Great days with great live music. 👍👍
I love it when our kids say I want to listen and love the music you and Dad love. Those days and music were the best! ❤
We don't have any record companies here with enough clout to promote any new acts. So we don't have any A&R guys. So if you want radio airplay - where the real money comes from - you have to go OS to be 'seen' and signed.
Then you sign away most of your money, but hey, you get played on commercial radio.
There are some great Aussie musicians around now.... And I many that are true to themselves... Creating unique sounds and dressing in normal clothes.. So refreshing!! I've made an absolute effort to support Aussie music during this weird year and have discovered some amazing talents. Shame the mainstream media doesn't support them more!
We were there.
It was HUGE!
I will never forget INXS with Jenny Morris at the Coffs Harbour Civic Centre,
Midnight Oil at Narrabeen Sands, The Angels.....and so many more great gigs.
The golden era of Australian rock.
I think the latest fad of "Reaction" YouTube's are a glimmer of hope... it shows that what we knew as awesome...is now being recognized as awesome by a new generation of listeners... let's hope it lights a fire in their newly trained ears... and the new generation stop accepting rythm with a distinct lack of melody and arrangement as musicianship... here's to the rock of the future... 😎👍
So True its where bands like chisel inxs and angles honed their sound , there stage presence ,they attracted us to life music never be the same again 🙏☺️🎸
All aussie bands in the early 80's were unique too, and all stood apart. Had their own sound. 70"s aswell. They all did the hard yards in the pubs too, before they got big. Thats one big thing bands are missing on these days.
Its still there, happening, but the Australian music industry doesn't support them, they will not take chances like they did back then and give support to independent artists who struggle to get recognition, they'd rather stick to proven artists or invest in a world of reality Tv and tribute bands who seem to dominate the music scene, occasionally one or two break through but lots of great music/musical artists are lost in the sands of time
Love Aussie pub rock 80s style inxs acdc the angels the radiators
Aussie bands created a great era of music!

Andrew Farriss So beautiful mate❤️ He maybe gone from this world but not from our lives. Everyone who had anything to do with Michael/INXS is keeping him alive in our hearts, thoughts, memory and music ❤️
The first time I heard it I thought of Michael. INXS, six brothers forever bound together by love and music. Afterglow and Gods Top Ten. Two more beautiful tributes to Michael.
INXS will always be imprinted in my heart. On the 28th of November, 18yrs ago I was starting my treatment for throat cancer. I will always listen to your music and follow where ever you all are.
As the voice of Michael and the stories in your songs kept me away from the dark places sometimes.
Michael initials are printed on my tattoo. So he will always be with me also. 💙🌹
